I am not messy, but I am a little clumsy.  My wife is always getting on to me about spilling things.  When I saw this DIY Fridge Mat Pinterest, I jumped at the chance to show the wife some projects of mine can make HER life easier also.  It is all well and good to be handy.

However, f you can’t wow the wife occasionally then you won’t have anyone to be prepared for.

To make a fridge mat simply use plastic place mats on your fridge shelves.  If they get dirty it is much easier to take them out and clean them than it is to clean the actual shelf.

As you can see this is a simple little project, but it does wonders for making your fridge easy to clean.  If the mats get too dirty, simply lift them out and throw them away.  The stains and spills will go with them leaving your fridge shelves protected and clean.

This DIY Fridge Mat is about as easy as my microwave cleaning trick.  It is not hard, try it and see if it makes your life easier.

I know I use this all the time myself.

I am quite happy with my cardboard can organizers.  They have survived a couple moves and several years of can foods being stored in them.  However, they are sized for normal sized cans.

I still need something for can drinks, tuna cans, and tomato paste cans.

Here is a good tip for those odd sized cans.

As soon as I saw a picture on pinterest of someone using a Magazine Rack for Can Storage I knew it was worth exploring.

To be honest, I still like my cardboard can organizer better, and finding the right sized magazine racks can be a chore, but this does work well.  It is probably also sturdier over time than the cardboard can organizers.  I know it would move better if you aren’t someone that stays in one place.

I hope you find it to be useful.

If you have other tips or things you would like to share or see tried out.  Please feel free to contact me.  I am always looking for good ideas to share.  I probably just need to spend more time on Pinterest, but since most of the good ideas are on mom sites, I have to be sure my wife doesn’t think I am out looking for the wrong stuff.

My wife is very interested in figuring out a way to get me to eat healthy; apparently she wants me to be around for a while.

She figured out the novel approach that if she wanted to create a blog about healthy eating and start doing videos about it, then I would be more inclined to help her. I hate to admit it, but she is probably right.

Today’s video is her first video of an idea she found to make salads in mason jars.

I am not sure where my wife found this tidbit (I would guess either Facebook or Pinterest), but when she shared it with me I was excited.

My wife and I now make our lunches in bulk at the start of the week and store them in mason jars.

This helps with portion control, time management, and it keeps me eating my vegetables.

This is a pretty flexible way to get work lunches, but you need to beware of moisture.

What we have found is that if you layer your foods in the Mason jar according to moisture level and resistance to moisture you can get by with some creative ideas.
We start with the dressing, and then add things like chopped chicken, olives, and/or cherry tomatoes. We then add some cheese, then lettuce, and lastly any croutons.

These store easily in the fridge, are distinguishable in the break room fridge, and you can eat it directly from the jar.

However, I find that if you pack the jar full it can be heard to get a good mix of dressing and greens, but if you leave some room you can shake the jar and mix it up that way.

Like most things, I got an idea from somewhere and then took it farther, for the last couple of weeks I have been carrying one of these salad jars with a Mason jar of chili or other leftovers.

    Score one for the wife.

Do me a favor and leave her some nice comments so she keeps positive about both her new videos and her struggle to get her family to east healthier…
