The amazon pictures do not do this product justice. I was offered the chance to review these 36W Cree LED Flood Beam Lights.  In all actuality, I was not expecting much.  However, the quality of the lights impressed me.

These lights are very solid, and have a very flexible mounting system.

I had every intention of doing a full video of installing them in my off grid shipping container and powering them with a 45 watt solar panel I already have.  Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and I am stuck in the house this weekend.

As soon as I get a chance, I will install these lights in the shipping container and show how well they work.

I did receive this product at a reduced cost, but after using them, I am going to buy more.

    Update:

I have used these in testing my solar set up in preparation for setting it up in my conex box at the land.  They are really nice.  I like how bright they are and how easy they are to set up.  Finally, these lights are not very expensive, and I am thinking about buying a couple more sets and making a light pole from a volleyball net post.

    Battery Terminal Quick Connect Review

Gear Review: Battery Terminal Quick Connect
    Buy at Amazon

I bought these Battery Terminal Quick Connect from Amazon because I had a problem.  Both my truck and my tractor have some short in them that causes my batteries to drain after a week or so of sitting.  This causes me to either have to switch batteries a lot, or disconnect the batteries when I am done with them.

Having to continually disconnect the battery caused wear on the cheap terminals I had on the truck, and it was a pain on the tractor.  I looked up solutions and found these $9.00 MOTOPOWER MP69011 Battery Quick Release Connectors Quick Disconnect Battery Terminals.

They were pretty easy to install and the Battery Terminal Quick Connect work by causing a clamping action on the terminals when the clamps are pressed down.

To remove, lift up on the clamp and the pressure will be removed from the terminals.

This set of terminal clamps work on most side and top mount batteries according to the instructions.  I found they worked perfectly on a closed cell optima deep cell battery.

This does make life much easier, as it is now a no tool proposition to remove and replace the battery on my tractor.  I still need a wrench to remove the battery from my truck, because of the battery hold down, but disconnecting it is pretty simple.

    #liveinfinitely

Growing up the son of a State Park Ranger, I went camping a lot.  It was a cheap vacation, and my Dad really liked laying in the hammock and relaxing as I rushed about playing wilderness survival “expert”.  I am pretty familiar with using a camping hammock.

We used to own a lot of hammocks, primarily the net kind.  Laying in them is nice, but they always seemed to snag on twigs when packing them, and they got tangled up a lot.

When Live Infinitely offered me a chance to review their Live Infinitely Double Camping Hammock I could not resist.  I ordered it off of Amazon and went out to pick out my trees.

I like this hammock as it is a double hammock and is rated for 450 pounds.  Now that I have grown up and gained some weight, the high strength makes me feel comfortable.  I also love how it is a solid nylon sheet.  This construction makes it easy to store and easy to fold.

Additionally, this hammock has a built in storage pouch that I also use as a convenient place to hold my phone and glasses as I nap.

This is, by far, the best camping hammock I have ever owned.  At $35.00 it is a good deal, and I like how it lets me sleep off the ground.

If you want more options, I have linked to a double hammock buyer’s guide.

  • How to Start Spoon Carving

Spoon carving is one of those things that can be very elegant and skill intensive.  Alternatively, it can be simple and functional.

There are a lot of specialized tools available and much in the way of instructions online.

Today I just want to go into the basics of spoon carving.  I don’t have a lot of instructions here.  This is so that someone that is interested can start, but not be overwhelmed.

The tools needed are pretty simple and inexpensive as spoons have been hand carved for thousands of years.

As I showed in my 52 Prepper Project for Kids book, the depression can be burned out with coals.  However, most use hook knives.

You Do Not Need Much to Start

Simply purchase a curved hook knife like the one shown from amazon.  You will also need a simple knife, some sandpaper, and a little bit of edible oil.  That is all that is truly necessary if you are carving from a blank.

A pencil and a small axe are helpful.

Start by designing your spoon and drawing the rough outline on the blank.  I like to start with the bowl.  This is because I don’t want to spend time carving down the handle and then ruin the spoon during the depression carving.

Once the bowl is formed I carve around it to form the rounded spoon form.

The last carving step is to trim down the handle.  That is the simplest part.  Also, I like having the leverage of the thick wood blank as I form the spoon head.

Once the spoon is fully carved, sand down the spoon.  That is to remove the tool marks and make it smooth.

Let it dry slowly and then coat with an edible oil to protect it.

Do not use oils like olive oil as they go rancid with time.  Many like to use tung or walnut oil, but some are allergic to nut oil.  In the spoon pictured above I used normal canola oil from the grocery.
