I have decided to start showcasing some of the websites and YouTube Channels that I use as a resource.  Today I am going to introduce you to a YouTuber named spinesales.

This guy has a lot of great videos, he does a lot of machining and foundry work, as well as gunsmithing and bluing.  I first started following him when I saw some of his swaging videos (for those that don’t know swagging is the process of using pressure to create jacketed bullets).

I asked him some questions and he responded by making the videos I have a the bottom of the post.

What he is talking about is swaging .22lr spent cases to begin the process of turning them into  .223 jacketed bullets.  Which, while labor intensive, may just become an extremely valuable skill.  Just imagine the ability to take a spent .22 case that most consider worthless, and turn it into a .223 hollow-point bullet ready for reloading.  This is pretty darn cool.

Spinsales has some really great videos, and from my contact with him, he is a really good guy.  I really enjoy watching his videos, I have learned a lot – he has great videos on machining as well as other things.

How to Peel A Hard Boiled Egg With Duck Tape

I want to share ShopDogSam’s video on How to Peel A Hard Boiled Egg With Duck Tape

Wala Shazam – This borders on alchemy. I just found this guy on YouTube, and think he is funny as well as smart.

Get two strips of standard (non fancy camouflage kind) duct tape and affix the tape around each end of the egg, leaving a small gap in the center of the egg and ensuring the two pieces don’t touch.

The next step on How to Peel A Hard Boiled Egg With Duck Tape is to crack the egg shell all the way around the egg.  Work the cracks all the way around the egg.

Once the egg shell is broken loose and the shell is craked, simply pull on the tape and the egg shells will come out leaving a clean boiled egg.

Now it seems like this way is not the most efficient method of peeling eggs as you have to buy the duct-tape, but I don’t think its as bad as the poor hippie country boy jokes about in the video.

However, efficiency aside, this makes the peeling process easier and cleaner, so there is a trade off that many people will gladly do.

Personally, I like feeding my chickens the old egg shells so I don’t use this method, but I love his humor (I think it is intentional humor) So I wanted to share his video.

How to Make a Homemade Taco Salad Bowl

Today’s recipe for s homemade taco salad bowl is a favorite go-to recipe at our house. It is cheap, easy, tasty, and since the tortilla’s are baked instead of fried it is healthier than the store bought versions.

Basically all you are doing is lightly rubbing oil on flour tortillas, forming them slightly, and then baking them until crisp.

I have tried just about every method of forming the shells (except the store bought formers), and find that taller forms such as mason jars give a better defined shell, but I like the shallower and wider shells that are made by using ceramic bowls.

If you are having difficulty forming your shells, you can try to microwave the tortillas for 30 seconds.  This will make them much more pliable, but I think this is unnecessary.

For those that want directions here they are:

 Ingredients/Tools

  • Burrito-size flour tortillas
  • Olive oil or Canola oil
  • Oven-safe bowls or canning jars

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • On a rimmed baking sheet, place the bowls or jars upside down, evenly spacing them to make room for the tortillas that will be draped over them.
  • Microwave the tortillas for about 30 seconds, until they are soft and pliable.
  • Rub a teaspoon or so of oil on the front and back of the tortilla. It doesn’t need to be a heavy coating of oil, just enough to help the tortilla crisp up and not stick to the form.
  • Drape each tortilla over a bowl
  • Gently press the sides down to help them form more of a bowl shape.

Mindset is pretty important.  I actually think mindset is the most important aspect of being prepared for disasters.  I have talked about this multiple times.  I particularly like the post on Whats Important Now.  How you think and what you think about shape every aspect of your life.  Proper mindset is what differentiates winners from losers, citizens from soldiers, and Soldiers from Operators.

Mindset has kept people alive when they have suffered injuries that should have been fatal.  You just have to keep your head.

Additionally, the concept of what is reasonable tempers the mind.  I may be willing to kill to survive, but being a reasonable person I balance this willingness with an understanding of the law, consequences, and morality.  This balance can be a complicated algorithm on occasion, but the ideas behind reasonableness is simple.
