This is a quality book filled with several concepts that any armed citizen need to fully understand. If you carry a gun, you need to read On Combat.

Col Grossman is one of the few modern warriors that has done any substantial research into the mental aspects of the use of force. He discusses what PTSD is, some information on how to deal with it, the flight or flight response, survival breathing techniques to reduce stress during lethal encounters, and much much more…

When I began learning how to shoot defensively this book was one I read over and over.  When I graduated into teaching people how to shoot defensively I dogeared On Combat even more.  I am on my second copy.

While some of the concepts in the book have come under scrutiny lately.  I still find them to be a good common sense description of what takes place in the body and mind when under life or death stress.

Despite the title, On Combat is not just for Soldiers and Marines.  It is a resource for anyone that carries a gun defensively.  I think it is most notably useful for armed citizens.  He has other books I will review on here, like On Killing, and Stop Teaching our Kids to Kill, but I think this is his best work.

A guide to small unit dismounted combat operations, extensively updated to include both the latest doctrine and lessons learned from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq

    • The Combat Leaders Field Guide covers the equipment, operations, and individual combat skills essential for soldiers and others who must act as infantry.
    • This book is essential for Army infantry leaders at the platoon and company level, Special Forces troops, Air Force security and patrol services, Marines, and other Army branches who operate as infantry when needed.
    • The basic skills all soldiers must know to prevail on the battlefield, including battle drills for offense and defense operations, patrols, construction and emplacement of fighting positions, use of weapons and artillery, mines and explosives, land navigation and map reading, communications, individual security and camouflage, and combat medicine (first aid).
The Combat Leaders Field Guide, is, in my opinion is a must have for all those that are preparedness minded.  It shows a lot of techniques and skills that are unavailable unless you have earned the knowledge through a stint serving in the military.
I think this book is an indispensable addition to a prepper library as it is a good way to learn basic patrolling and other military techniques that would be essential to defending a fixed site like a farm or retreat.

The tactics in this book deserve a lot of thought.  It is my opinion that war will eventually come to America, and those that fight against our citizens will either fight in the manner described in this book, or will be defeated by the tactics described within.Tactics of the Crescent Moon is required reading at Forts Benning and Leavenworth (and some Marine commands), because it fully details the Islamists’ yet-to-be-defeated 4GW method.

That method is best countered by “light” infantry tactics, but America has had only “line” infantry since 1943.

Its modern sequel travels mostly by truck and fights mostly with supporting arms. That’s because the Pentagon still practices a “higher-tech” version of 2GW (killing as many enemy as possible).

How to operate the latest equipment takes up so much of the young infantryman’s day that he never learns how to sneak up on an expert defender.

He and his buddies don’t become any less visible by donning advanced electronics, so their traditional small-unit maneuvers remain just as predictable. Instead of historical artifacts, all Posterity Press books should be viewed as vehicles of long-overdue change.

I don’t know if that description is interesting to you, but I think it makes this book required reading for those concerned about Islamism.

The Tactical Shotgun Suarez gives you his second book on tactical weapons.

Gabe Suarez sets the record straight on the true role of the shotgun in combat.

He shows you what you need to know to defend your home, family or business, including multiple hostiles, low-light situations, moving targets and more.

For those that don’t know Gabe Suarez is a veteran of Southern California law enforcement, where he has served for many years.

His extensive field experience includes single officer patrol, gang enforcement, special operations and tactical training.

He was one of the founding members of his department’s Special Weapons and Tactical Precision Rifle teams.

Gabe Suarez knows his shotguns, and the Tactical Shotgun is one of the best books on the subject.  If you want to know how to use a shotgun for interpersonal conflict resolution, you need to read this book.

This book is a key work on my shelf of shotgun manuals.  I don’t hunt or skeet shoot with my shotgun, it is only used for self-defense purposes, which makes this book even more valuable to me.  I recommend this book highly.  Between this book, a sling, and a lot of practice, you won’t need much else.
