So You Are Going To Prison

I wish I could tell you that So You Are Going To Prison was worth the read, but in all honesty I cannot. I thought it was a pretty cool title, but there really is not a lot of substance to it.

I work in a prison, and this book really was noting more of a rehash of common prison themes.

In my opinion, the only way the material in this book will help you is if you are so sheltered that you know absolutely nothing about prison (including watching TV )- and if that’s the case, you probably should not be doing anything that could land you in jail (hey, on second thought – you really should not be doing anything that will land you in jail anyway…)

I bought “do you are going to prison” because of two things – the first is that I was interested based upon my experiences working at various Tennessee prisons and I wanted to see if the author got it right.

The second is because I have a nagging suspicion that I may die in prison. Not because I do bad things, but because everything I enjoy doing is slowly being regulated out of existence by nanny state supporters and we are living in an increasingly tyrannical world where feelings and subjective thought trump fact and liberty. It seems like freedom minded folks that just want to live there own life on their own terms are becoming more and more marginalized.

21 Days to Basic Preparedness: Book Review

I decided to try my hand at DIY publishing on the kindle. This particular ebook has been around in various ways on my site for a few years. I enhanced it and put it out on Kindle.

It takes a while (21 days its said) to make a habit. This book is about making the habit to be better prepared.

What I did was take all the academic training I have in Emergency Management, add in the experience I have earned working for a state emergency management agency as an operations officer and planner, and filter it through the viewpoint of a prepper to get something not commonly found in this niche. That is a scientific approach to prepping.

21 Days to Basic Preparedness is a basic guide, and its not got a lot of specifics on how to can food or put together a solar generator (you can find specifics all through this site). What it does is address things like how to plan or and how to test your plan.

I decided to try my hand at DIY publishing on the kindle.

The Ultimate Guide to Pepper Spray Now on Kindle has been in my head for a few years. I never tried to write it as a traditional book because a 30,000 word requirement just adds words for the sake of words. I didn’t want to write a book of fluff.

Secrets Of Street Survival – Israeli Style

Israeli self-defense and small arms specialist Eugene Sockut presents hard-learned survival tactics, including adopting the right mind-set, using “hot” and “cold” weapons, securing your home and surviving a riot.

I found Secrets Of Street Survival to offer some interesting insight into personal preparedness. This is because concept in this book are based around Israeli settlers who are surrounded by Palestinians. Because these Palestinians can go from “friendly” employees and co-workers to attempting to kill the Israeli settlers in an instant and without warning Settlers have some specific issues worth studying.

If you have thought about the see-saw of being too hesitant and too aggressive. It is hard to determine action points in such a situation. This is especially true when those coworkers appear friendly but who are liable to turn on you in an instant. Furthermore, you can’t pull your gun on everybody for any reason, there are political, moral, and legal issues to face.

No where else in the world does an individual face the types of situations that Sockut describes, this makes it interesting. Similarly, the lessons learned in this book can translate to disaster situations. Therefore, I feel that is becoming increasing important as America is becoming less permissive and more anti-gun.

I found the concepts in this book very useful to my teaching. I used it extensively in my Introduction to Terrorism course, as well as in various firearm courses.

Paladin Press labeled this book For academic study only, and it is definitely worthy of study.
