Method #1

Recipe: Brown Rice Baby Food Method #1

This is a simple way of making your own Baby Food.

We are only using rice, water, and either breast milk or formula depending on your preference.

I like this because it makes baby food for our boy without all the weird chemicals in commercial baby cereal.

By doing this we control exactly what WT eats.

Additionally, I know that I can make him food that he can eat even if he is not old enough to go on the rice and beans disaster diet.

This is a pretty easy recipe to make.

While learning how to make baby food we learned lots of other recipes and ways of doing things.

Ingredients

  • Rice
  • Water
  • Formula/Breast Milk

Procedure

  • Cook Rice
  • Blend to a paste
  • Add enough milk or formula to get to the consistency you feed your child.

Could not be easier.

Something else you can do with this is portion it into ice cube trays to store in freezer for 6 months or so (as long as you would keep frozen Breast milk)

This allows us to mix it with warm formula to feed the baby without a lot of trouble (not that making baby cereal is trouble)

At the age he is eating baby cereal the new hasn’t wore off…. LOL

Method #2

The way we are showing today is the easiest, and closest to the commercial cereal you buy in boxes at the store.

However you do have to grind the rice to make a flour.

Making our own baby food allows us to control exactly what goes into Williams body.

As parents, we want to ensure that he only gets the foods he needs without a lot of chemicals and sugars.

As parents we want him to have everything he needs to grow up strong, smart, and adaptable – and at this age the best thing we can do is to feed him well and give him lots of attention.

Ingredients

1/2 cup short grain brown rice (i like to use organic brown rice)

Preparation

  • Place the brown rice in a spice grinder or blender for 45 seconds-1 minute or until finely ground.
  • At this point you can store the rice powder in a sealed container in the refrigerator or in a cool dark place.
  • To make 1 serving for a 4-6 month old baby
  • Bring 1/2 cup of water to a boil and sprinkle in 2 tbsp of the ground brown rice.
  • Whisk continuously for 30 seconds and then occasionally for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture is thick and creamy to prevent any lumps from forming.

Serve as is or with fruit or other additions as desired or recommended by your pediatrician

A hurricane is a storm with winds of more than 72 mph accompanied by heavy rain. Hurricanes are life threatening especially if they get you unprepared. Just like any other disasters, hurricanes can get you at any time no matter where you are.

College students are more affected when hurricanes hit their schools. When the meteorologists forecast a hurricane is about to hit, the school students are forced to evacuate. Sometimes forecasts are inaccurate, and the hurricane may hit when everyone is unprepared.

Hurricanes can occur when students are in college dorms. This can be the terrifying moment as you may not know what to do to rescue yourself. Knowing what to do and what not to can help save your life.  Learn how to be safe in the dorm during a Hurricane,

The school must set up school emergency plans to save a student’s life during disasters. For hurricanes, the school can ask the students to go home.

Other emergency plans include:

  1. Installing hurricane shutters in the windows
  2. Emergency alerts
  3. Make sure the drainage system is working
  4. Set a safe location where students are safer
  5. The school should also talk about the hurricanes in details to help calm the students fear.
  6. The school should communicate with parents and let them know how safe their students are.

Below is a list of tips will help a student before, during and after hurricanes

Preparation before hurricane strikes

Forecasts from meteorologists can show hurricanes are about to strike. There are these simple things you can do in preparation for the hurricane to have you safe.

Evacuate and go home.

Hurricanes only affect a given region. When your school has been confirmed that it is most likely to be struck by a hurricane your home isn‘t likely to be affected unless you’re based near the school. The school administration is likely to evacuate the school. Going home keeps you will be far to feel the effects of the hurricane. Remember taking all your valuables with you as leaving them behind is risking.

Unplug all power cords and cover electronic equipment with plastic bags to lower damages as a result of water.

If you are not to evacuate the school, there are some things you will need to do.

  1. Move all furniture away from windows. All loose objects on the floor like books should be removed and kept on drawers. Take away any outdoor furniture, decor, garbage and lawn supplies that can blow away during heavy winds.
  2. Clean and fill water buckets with clean water. When there is a strong hurricane water supply is likely to be damaged. You will need clean water even after the hurricane as you wait for the water supply system to be repaired.
  3. Close all windows in the dormitory. Few days before the hurricane you can ask the school administration to install hurricane shutters.
  4. Look for a flashlight as the power may be affected leading to blackouts. You can also look for backup options such as power banks to charge your phone.
  5. If you own a car make sure to park it in the assigned area with all windows closed and doors locked.

During the hurricane

  1. Stay indoors. When in a dormitory during the hurricanes advisable to stay indoor until when the hurricane calms. Make sure all the doors and windows are closed. Stay away from danger areas like skylights, glass windows, and doors. Tree branches and flying debris can catapult through the window or door, breaking the glass and hitting you. Don’t open the window or door to look at what is happening outside.
  2. Avoid using elevators. Hurricanes are accompanied with destructions of infrastructures. The power supply is affected, expect power failure at any time. Elevators only work in the presence of power when power fails they lock themselves.
  3. When floods threaten to enter into the dorm power off the electricity at the breaker. Cover all electrical equipment with plastic bags and make sure to unplug all power cords.
  4. Don’t take a bath, make phone calls or use electrical devices as they may attract lightning during a storm.
  5. Avoid hurricane parties. They are only in movies. During hurricanes taking alcohol is risking your life. You need to think clearly as anything can happen at any time.

After the hurricane

  1. Stay away from standing water. Due to the destruction of the power supply, there may be some power lines in the water. The water may be electrically charged. Do not touch trees or any other object that is in contact with power lines.
  2. Do not drink tap water until the water supply has been repaired. This water if the pipe was broken at some point will be contaminated and harmful to your body.
  3. Report to the administration the areas that need to be repaired to avoid further damages and injuries.

*I did not write this post, as I never lived in a dorm during a hurricane.  I have lived in a Barracks during a hurricane.  However, my hurricane steps were to get a bunch of alcohol and to tie a bunch of ponchos together and make a sled out of the hood of an old truck and try parasailing down the main road to the French Creek Barracks Area of Camp Lejuene.

If your water heater is acting funny or if you’ve noticed anything different about it, you might need major water heater repair. These are signs that you should look for!

Sediment in Your Water

Sediment in your water can be cause for concern because it should be filtered out through the hot water heater. If there is any sediment in your water, parts of your water heater might not be working. Your hot water heater may also be malfunctioning causing the sediment to form in the first place. If you see sediment, it can be a huge signal that something is wrong with your hot water heater.

Water That’s Not Clear

If the water coming out of your hot water tap is not clear, you might need to contact plumbing services to get help. When your water isn’t clear, it can mean many different things, but it might be associated with your hot water heater. There are many things you’ll have to look at if your water isn’t clear so it’s best to call a professional to figure out what the actual problem with the water is.

An Odor that Comes from Your Heater

Your water shouldn’t smell bad! If the water has a rotten egg smell, it might have too much sulfur in it that the water heater isn’t properly filtering. If it has more of a metallic smell, that could be a problem with iron in your water. No matter what odor is coming from your water, it’s probably not a good thing. Make sure you talk with a plumbing professional to get help if you smell something wrong with your water.

Water that Isn’t Hot

If your water isn’t heating up, it could signal a big problem with your hot water heater. If your hot water heater suddenly stops working, it can make it difficult for you to live. You’ll need to adjust the temperature so that you can make sure it’s not something wrong with the thermostat. If that doesn’t work, you should always call a plumbing professional to learn whether you need major water heater repair.

Any of these could be signs of minor issues, too. Keep in mind that just because you have a sign of a major water heater problem doesn’t mean that you do have a major water heater problem. If you do have a problem, it’s important to get it fixed as quickly as possible.

If you’ve recently relocated to a new building you may be stuck for renovation ideas to bring the space to life. Your main considerations should be the practicality, comfort and aesthetics when it comes to designing your office. You could be working with a blank canvas or you might need to breathe some life into an old, tried room. Either way, there are plenty of ways you can create something amazing that works for your business. Read on for the best design ideas for your office:

 Open Plan

Gone are the days of stuffy restricted offices where you’re expected to work behind your divider wall with no communication with the outside world. Open plan offices have become increasingly popular, aiming to open up the space. It transforms the room into an environment with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This has also helps with collaboration between departments, consequently improving employee morale. It’s been found that employees work better and far more effectively with an open plan office. If you still need a place for meetings with clients, then you can always create a separate space specifically for this purpose.

Decoration for The Office

Keep the room light and bright by using light or neutral colours, with the only other dominant colour being that of your brand. Using light colours will also mean that your room has a timeless look and won’t ever be outdated. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to mix textures and patterns to add some depth and bring the room to life.

In addition, having artwork across the walls is not only visually pleasing, but it shows you have a happy and fun workplace. You can dot artwork around the office or even have a dedicated wall. Using artwork that’s relevant to your business is the perfect way to finish off your office design; this could be company statistics, achievements or employee work.

Let in Plenty of Light

If you’ve moved to a high-rise building in the city centre, then you may be lucky enough to have panoramic views across the office. Make the most of these by allowing as much light in as possible, taking a look at the best types of blinds that will allow you to filter light. This way you can have complete control over the natural light in the office. This will also allow for privacy when you need it.

If you’re working in an office with limited windows or in a home office, then try not to have any bulky furniture in the way that will block some of the light. You can even install some daylight lightbulbs in areas where they may be little light to make it brighter and more inviting.

Add Some Greenery

Office plants aren’t just for decoration, they are also beneficial to employee’s health. Plants are proven to remove harmful chemicals from the air, giving the room a cleaner, less compact feel. They’re also wonderful to look at – and they don’t even need to be hard work. There are plenty of low maintenance plants including succulents, spider plants, snake plant and even aloe vera that look wonderful in the office but require very little attention. You’ll find this means employees take less sickness days, are less stressed and boosts productivity.

How Will You Design Your Office?

The way you design your office can have a monumental impact on the business. Consider the best layout that will allow for optimum productivity, which may include switching to an open plan office. You could even compile a short survey for existing employees.  If you’re moving consider asking what changes they’d like to see in the office plan.

5 Tips to Keep your Ruger 10/22 Running Like a Top

Who doesn’t love a Ruger 10/22?  That are fast, accurate, and beyond fun to shoot.  Nearly everyone has one and many people (like me) have several.  They are very easy guns to operate and maintain.  If you want to get the most out of your 10/22, here are some tips to help!

Keep It Clean

Starting here because it’s a no-brainer but you have to keep it as clean as you can.  This is even more important with newer models than the older ones that were a little more forgiving.  Some modern advancements have made the gun overall safer to use but added complex parts that gather grit.

Additionally, most .22 rounds tend to be extra dirty to shoot and leave a lot of powder fouling.  This is a sure fire way to make your reliable Ruger semi-auto into an inconvenient single shot rifle.

Clean every moving part well and use a quality lube.  I will often take mine outside and use a large can of Rem Oil and flush everything out of it then blow it out with an air compressor before final lube.  Make sure you don’t have to much lube or oil remaining when you do final assembly, it just makes the gun gum up worse.

Use Good Ammo

There are a ton of reasons to use good ammo.  It’s more reliable, it can be more accurate, and sometimes it’s more powerful or potent.  All of those are great reasons to use a quality round made by a good manufacturer.

The best reason to use good ammo is that they are often coated with a thin layer of brass or copper and that thin plating can save you a ton of issues with cleaning later.  With the size of the bore, a .22 rifle barrel can be very hard to clean.

Get Quality Mags

For too many reasons to list here, having extra mags is a really good idea.  The 10 round mag that comes with the Ruger is perfect and used to be very expensive if you wanted a second one.  Now you can get a three pack made by Ruger for around $50.00.  It’s a worthwhile investment.

You are also going to want some bigger mags, trust me on this.  There was a time that Butler Creek made the only decent quality 30 round mag on the market but now that Ruger offers its own BX-25 mags, those are probably preferred.  For one, some Butler Creek mags won’t fit some 10/22s.  I had a lot of trouble with my 10/22 takedown and finding an extended mag.

Whatever you get, stick with the best quality mags.  Factory is preferred but there are a few other companies like Butler Creek that make good stuff.

Don’t be Afraid to Mod

The true beauty of the 10/22 is that with around 5 million of them made, the market for mods is huge.  You can do as little as adding a new scope or trigger all the way up to building a 10/22 that has no parts made by Ruger at all.  Additionally, you can get a stock or a gun that shoots less than a half MOA at 50 yards.

You can make a rifle to emulate an AR-15 and many other popular firearms or just fine tune it to do any job you would ever need.  Add a suppressor for a lot of fun and a great way of taking care of those night time varmints without waking the neighbors.

Some popular mods are a new stock, new trigger, and new barrel.  They are easy to change out and can really improve the function, comfort, and accuracy of your rifle.

Add an Optic

Whether you go with the ever-popular red-dot sights or sup your gun up with a proper scope, this can add so much functionality to an already great rifle.  There are so many tasks that the 10/22 excels at that can be improved with an affordable optic.

I have several different optics on my Rugers ranging from no magnification up to a 20x scope on a heavily modified 10/22 I use for varminting.  There is truly no more fun toy and it makes a superb training gun for youths and first-time shooters.

Of course, you don’t want to just grab any scope where there are quite a few 10/22 scope choices that are perfectly suited for your purposes.

No matter what you do with your 10/22, a little time, care, and experimentation can turn it from a somewhat run of the mill gun to something truly outstanding.  Of course, there is nothing wrong with a run of the mill gun if that’s your style but no matter what you do, the tips above will keep your little Ruger running for a lifetime or more!
