Replacing your existing window is something that you should take seriously. Apart from being a huge investment, it’s also a relevant improvement that enhances the overall appearance of your home. While it’s considered a cheap expense, knowing the right time to replace your window is of paramount importance. So if you want to save on energy costs, here are some essential signs that allow you to know if your window needs to be replaced as soon as possible.

Windows are difficult to open and close

When you find your windows difficult to open and close, it may be about time to replace them right away. The difficulty may be caused by the shifting of the shape of the window frame. In the end, you need to be able to open and close your windows properly to keep your home safe and secure.

There are cold spots near windows

If there are gaps outside the disintegrated frame, it’s a clear sign that warm air escapes from home during winter and cool air leaks out during summer. When this happens, replacing your window may be your best option.

You hear outside noises

Your windows may be to blame when your home frequently experiences outside noises, thus you can’t even get a good night’s sleep. Remember that older windows can no longer block the noise out properly from a nearby area. Furthermore, it would be better to change your old windows with a new noise-reducing one to make your home a quiet place of resting after a busy day.

Windows are rotting

An essential sign of severe structural damage is a rotten window. When your windows are already rotting, don’t think twice to have it replaced immediately. Apart from difficulty closing and opening, rotten windows don’t look good for your home. To stay on top of your safety, be sure to check your windows from time to time.

Window glass is broken

Once your window glass is broken, replacing it is the right thing to do as a homeowner. Besides, you don’t want a broken window to affect the security of your home. There are several window replacement options offered by professional companies that you can actually take advantage of. Instead of having an individual piece of window replaced, you can make use of many options for an entire replacement at an affordable cost. That way, you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade your windows without spending a lot of money in the first place.

You can barely see outside

Windows are supposed to help you see the outside surroundings. But if you can barely see out of them, then a window replacement can be a good consideration to make. Besides, your windows are already affected by discoloration, fading, and even condensation. Take note that the fading of your windows can lower the value of your home as well as affect its curb appeal.

You have high energy bills

The unusual increase in your energy bills has something to do with your windows. Even if you have an air conditioning that works properly, leaky windows that allow too much outside air can be partly to blame for the high energy bills. If possible, try to compare your bill from last month and if it’s significantly higher than the previous one, it’s a warning sign indicating a possible need for window replacement.

Conclusion

Your home remains a valuable investment you’ll ever make in your entire life. In fact, replacing your old, outdated windows can go a long way in improving the overall look of your home as well as the value of your investments. However, knowing the need for window replacement isn’t as easy and simple as you ever thought. With the essential warning signs mentioned above, you’ll surely be able to recognize the necessity of making this upgrade to your home. If you consider replacing your window now, then seeking assistance from window installation companies like Window Film Depot can be of great help.

Instafire Fire and Charcoal Starter

InstaFire Fire Starters

A few weeks ago I was approached by the guys at Instafire to try out their product. I saw it on Sharktank and was already familiar with it so of course I said okay. I have messed with various fire starters before so I was not really expecting much, but after using it, I think its one of the best firestarting products I have used.

It burns a lot like vasoline soaked cotton balls for those woodsman who have tried that common tool, but it is infinitely less messy and burns a lot hotter.

Using Instafire is simple, if its the charcoal starter (as seen in the video above) just light two sides of the bag and place under the grate so air can flow, then stack charcoal on the grate so the flames can ignite it.

My camera did not do so well in the heat, so it is a little foggy in the video, but you can see in it that a single starter pack burned long after the coals started to turn white, which is an indication that this stuff is as fire and forget as a burning tool can be.  You don’t have to mess with lighting and relighting and pouring lighter fluid and relighting over and over again.

Now for the fire starter bag, I didn’t video this because its just too easy – pour the contents on a non-porous surface (like a rock) light it and put your wood over it.  I am not one to follow directions, so I poured mine on a log and then pout more wood over it and that works as well.

This product is simple and contains no hazardous chemicals – its basically wood pulp, a special blend of paraffin wax, and perlite.  When its done, it is a great fertilizer for your garden.

Instafire is such a great product, in 2011 it won the innovative product of the year award as well as being funded on Sharktank.

It comes in small individual bags you can keep in your hunting bag or emergency kit, as well as large buckets you can keep at the cabin or near the fireplace.  I love it and have decided to become an affiliate – which, as you know, I review a lot of stuff, but I don’t become an affiliate very often.

Nerf Gun Target Pouch Review

Nerf Gun Target

What does a Nerf Gun Target Pouch have to do with preparedness?  Absolutely nothing, why did I post it here?  Because of the guest the other day about family and kids.  So like the YouTube vudeo the other day about Minecraft, my son wants to make videos like his Dad.  I catch him acting like he is on camera all the time “Hey Guy’s its TNTell the YouTuber and today we are going to talk about feeding the dog -dab- Comment’s below”….

Anyway, we love having 2 way nerf gun wars at the house, and it always ends up with momma getting shot, so mom keeps throwing his nerf ammo away, which is terrible,  because we just bought a 100 pack.

I saw this nerf target that is really a nerf storage pouch, but it has a hole in the bullseye so if he shoots his gun accurately he will also be storing his darts.

It comes with the pouch, the hook, and a sticky holder so you can hang the pouch anywhere.  The pouch costs $11.99 with prime shipping.  However, if it keeps mom from throwing his darts away then it will save much more than that in darts!

It works, but as you can see in the video, it took us a couple tries to get a bullseye (about 4 minutes of trying were edited out)….

Hydration Backpack with 2L Water Bladder Review

Hydration Backpack with 2L Water Bladder

Today I want to share a review of a Hydration backpack I just got with Amazon.  This is a backpack with an removable 2 liter hydration bladder.

I have owned a lot of hydration backpacks overt the years, fat guys that work outside need a lot of water so I have used (and worn out) my share.

This isn’t just a hydration pack, its a full backpack, so its not something I would wear will working the sawmill or working in the garden, this is something I would wear as I took William out “hunting” which means letting him walk in the woods with an empty bb gun.

Personally, I plan on using mine as a “get home bag” in the truck.  Something I can pack with some non-perishable food, flashlight, socks and underwear – basic gear I would need for an unplanned overnight stay or if I had to walk home in an emergency.

This pack is well made – especially for a pack that sells for less than $30.00 (with prime shipping included).  I like how the blasser tube is insulated and covered in neoprene.  I always tend to kink mine up.  It has a nice tube routing system to keep it out of the way.

As I said in the video, the stitching is better than I expected for such an inexpensive pack, and the material is pretty heavy duty.

I am pleased with the purchase, and will probably order two more for the other vehicles in the household.
