Child Beekeeping | Farmer Tell’s First Time Working Bees | Child Installing Package Bees
Child Beekeeping you say. My son wanted a bee suit so he could help me with the bees. So…. He got a bee suit. He did better than his mom did. Actually since I din’t seal my suit carefully and bee got inside my bonnet, the boy did better than me.
Now, the filming of the video left something to be desired. We ran out of battery and Genny is scared of bees, which caused some problems
This hive did awesome, until the Donkey decided to smash it. We ended up moving the hive later.
We have installed package bees before. I have articles showing a couple methods, but this time I was focused on teaching William.
Basically William sprayed the bees with sugar water so they would get more gentle because of their full bellies.
Next I pried off the cover of the package and removed the can of sugar water that fed them on their trip from the package provider.
Dumping the package of bees out on top of the open hive looks scary, but its really not.
Then I gently pried out the cap that prevented the queen and her attendants from eating out the sugar block and escaping.
After the cap was removed I dropped the queen cage inside the hive and closed it up.
William helped me write this article and he wanted to say:
i forgot about this video until i watched it with my awesome dad! i like bee keeping and it was scary but i was brave in my suit. thank you for watching BYE!!!!!
