I like grilling out, but I have a problem timing everything to be ready at the same time, and I tend to run out of eyes on the stove and space on the grill when trying to entertain. This means I am always looking for better ways of doing things (plus I just love experimenting…)

I saw this tip the other day on pinterest for cooking corn on the cob in large amount easily and had to try it – it worked amazingly well so I felt I should share it.

If you dump raw corn (shucked and cleaned preferably) into a clean chest type freezer (not Styrofoam) you can cook large amounts of corn without doing a lot of work. Simply add boiling water to the corn filled cooler, close the lid and wait at least 30 minutes.
The corn will cook perfectly – will not overcook – and the cooler will keep the corn warm for hours.

Very simple, very easy, and when we tried it at our home it worked perfectly…

This way of cooking corn on the cob is crazy simple, and it turns out the water can be reused for making jelly.

I don’t think I will ever cook corn on the cob on the stove again, unless it is just for me.  It is just to easy to do it this way when cooking for groups.

Use Your Fridge as a Whiteboard

I had to work this Fridge Inventory Tip video when the wife was asleep.  Not everyone can use this, and to be honest, I would only do this on my freezer (but since my freezer is covered with half completed projects, this was easier than cleaning up my workshop for a quick video.

Anyway, if you want an easy fridge inventory tip, a dry erase marker will work on many freezer finishes, and this may be a good way to keep track of what is in your freezer.

Just be sure you use a dry erase marker or your wife may cut you.

This fridge inventory tip can work for other refrigerator colors other than white, but be sure to test the finish in an area that you have a hard time seeing, as you don’t want to write a bunch of stuff on the fridge door and not be able to clean it off.

I have to be careful with this, you see I have a 4 year old that if he saw me writing on the fridge with dry erase markers he would think he could do it with sharpies.

FIY here is another tip, if your child writes on your fridge with permanent marker, you can write over his art with a dry erase and it will lift off the first marks…..

How to Keep Brownies from Sticking to the Pan

This is a very simple tip.  My wife loves cooking homemade brownies.  She uses it as a teaching tool in her special education class to teach cause/effect, math, and life skills.

Unfortunately if you are not careful a homemade brownie will stick to the pan. Luckily pinterest showed me a better way.

If you grease your pan normally, but then spread parchment paper over it, and then pour the mix over the mix the brownies are very simple to remove.

The paper will not stick to the pan, nor the brownies.

This homemade brownie tip is short and simple, but that does not mean it is not useful.  I know that it saves me a lot of time cleaning out the pan because I don’t have to scrape out little burnt bits of brownies from the pan.

I will understand if you need to practice this tip over and over to ensure you get it right.  You may have to make several brownie batches to ensure you get it just right.  I have a homemade brownie mix that may make this even better.

If you want a healthier (healthier being relative) I have a recipe that uses blackberries in the brownie mix.

Organization Tip: Mason Jar Salt Lid

The Parmesan cheese lid article was so popular I figured I would show you a similar tip for wide mouth jars.  I present to you the mason jar salt lid tip.

The top of a 26 ounce salt container just happens to be the same size as a wide mouth mason jar.

The top and the bottom are formed, with the body being wound around them.

If you feel the container, you will feel a “lip”.  If you carefully cut the top along this lip – you can press it down over the top of a wide mouth mason jar and screw the ring over it.

This isn’t as easy as some of the other lid tips I have shared with you, but it is a good way to store opened salt.

As I said in the video, I only use this mason jar salt lid for containers I have already opened – but it does make it easier to store salt without it getting moist and hardening.

I used this the other day after a snow storm – I used some stored salt in these containers to try to remove some stubborn ice spots since I took all my shovels to the land.  I know that table salt is not the same as road salt, but the work similarly (just more expensively) – it worked though and I could get to work.

Do you want to know how to easily remove carbon from a revolver cylinder? It is easy. Remove the cylinder from the revolver first.

I really love shooting revolvers.

(I love shooting double action so much I modified my Glock 17 to have a trigger that is more like a double action revolver.)

However, cleaning the cylinder is not something I enjoy, rubbing lead remover cloth around the face of the cylinder has always annoyed me because the crane and extractor rod always get in my way.

When I was going through the TN Department of Correction firearm instructor course (TDOC uses revolvers at its institutions) I learned this really cool trick.

How to Remove a Revolver Cylinder

If you remove the screw that holds the cylinder crane to the frame the crane and the cylinder will slide out.  This will allow you to easily clean the cylinder.

The cylinder will slide back in the firearm when you are done.  (Generally this is the single screw right below the bore end of the cylinder, on the frame, on the side opposite the cylinder release)

Do not over tighten the crane screw.  If you do, the revolver  will not easily open and close.  Use proper screwdrivers, as this is a common place to “bugger” up your gun.

This tip is pretty simple, just don’t loose the screw, and always use the proper screwdriver for the screw.
