We fell in love with the artisan fridge bread recipe (at least until I finally broke down and bought a kitchen aide stand mixer) – it makes it so easy to make fresh bread you have to fall in love with it.

Not being able to leave a good thing alone, I had to tinker with the recipe and the recipe uses until I came up with this Fridge Bread Pizza Recipe.

I like big pillowy pizza crust deep dish pizza is my kryptonite.

This is a great recipe for busy nights when you have to throw something together for a hungry family with little time and energy.

While it is so easy you really don’t need written instructions, watch the videos a couple times and try it.  I bet you will find it as worthwhile as I do.

The best thing is, you can make this dough when you have time, and it can sit in the refrigerator until you need it. The longer it sits in the fridge the better the dough gets.  After a week or so it makes an awesome pizza – if you can let it sit that long.

Personally I never can wait that long.

How to Prevent Freezer Burn on Ice Cream

The comments on the video below are consistent in saying that if you have to prevent freezer burn on ice cream you are not eating it fast enough.

That is fair, and maybe people don’t have this problem, but I do because we like to keep ice cream in the freezer as a reward for WT but sometimes I forget it is there.

Freezers tend to pull moisture from items and overtime this causes freezer burn.  It does not necessarily ruin the item, but it does deteriorate flavor and texture .  Additionally things like ice cream can pick up off flavors from other things stored in the freezer.

To prevent this you can easily slip the ice cream in a gallon heavy duty freezer bag.  If you really want to extend the shelf life of ice cream as well as doubly prevent freezer burn on ice cream you can use something like the thrifty vac to vacuum out any air from the bag.

This does not just work for ice cream, you can use it for anything you want to store long term in the freezer.

In my basement deep freeze I have several dozen rabbit skins double bagged in ziplocks until I get enough to turn into a rabbit pelt blanket.  I bet you could even use this to store food in a portable ice maker.

While this is definitely not on Genny’s 21 day fix recipe list, Chip Bag Nachos is a hit on the busy mom what are we going to do for dinner list.  I like it because it is novel and fun as well as easy.

I have seen this recipe for chip bag nachos on several blogs and finally decided to try.  I wish I did so earlier.  It is a fun thing todo with children and is a great hit with picky eaters.

Since the food is mixed in and eaten out of chip bags, cleanup is a snap, simply toss in the garbage and your done.

While I am not going to write out a full recipe for something so simple the concept is pretty easy.  Get individual baggs of nacho chips – natural or flavored (I like using Doritos) – cook up ground meat with taco flavoring, open the bag and add in a couple tablespoons of meat, cheese, and any other desired taco ingredients like sour cream, lettuce, or salsa.

Mix in with a spoon and eat straight from the bag.

This is not a prepper recipe, but it is a good one for camping.  It is also good for stress full times because it is so easy and fun.  I invite you to try it, as well as to leave me a comment on the youtube video below.

This recipe is something my son also likes to make.  He loves cooking, but it drives his mom nuts because he does not like to eat what he cooks.  He would rather just try to eat cheese crackers.

Recipe: Banana Peel Chicken

Banana Peel Chicken is not a widely known technique. However, since we eat a lot of banana and I hate waste I found a way to use them.

What we do is wrap the chicken in a banana peel before we bake it so that it provides a protective covering to steam the chicken and keep in the moisture.

The basis of this idea are aboriginal recipes. Cultures throughout the world wrap food in leaves and steamed it in the ground.

It does make the meat more moist, and does not add any banana flavor to the meat. You could get the same result from aluminum foil, but in doing it this way you make less waste as the banana peel is free.

Finally, I will say that aluminum foil, or a good pot lid will do the same thing. This concept really works the best for those that are very serious about reducing the items they use. It really doesn’t bring that much benefit to those that don’t mind digging out the foil to wrap our food.

Banana peel chicken would probably work well to cook food in coals while sitting around a campfire. I may have to try that.
