This particular video discusses how to identify, diagnose, and correct common pistol malfunctions.  I enjoyed watching it, and I learned some new ways to share information with others.  It is worth the time to watch.

Pistols are relatively simple machines, only a few things can go wrong and of what can happen, only are common pistol malfunctions.  Watch the video to see how an expert discusses ways to clear those common issues defensive firearm users may have to work around.

As I said before, I find Mr. Smith highly entertaining, but that only enhances my respect for his skill.

Clint Smith is an expert on the use of Defensive Firearms.  He is a Marine Corps Infantry vet, SWAT officer, and has been running Thunder Ranch since 1993.

I like his style, this thought process, and how he teaches.  When I teach firearms classes, there are several techniques and lessons that I share that I gleaned from Mr. Smith.

I have searched YouTube for good training videos to share, and I have found several clips of Thunder Ranch training videos.  Think of them as advertisements for their full length training videos.  (I don’t gain anything from this, but I do think there videos are a valuable and worthwhile purchase.)

I don’t know how many times I have said that I keep guns for the protection of my family.  While I enjoy the shooting sports, and I respect the Founding Fathers and understand the civil rights issues of gun ownership.  I keep guns because I have an deep need to protect my family.

Working in the State Penitentiary system I see people that have made their living using violence against the innocent.  I know how deadly home invasions and the like can be.  This video shows some tactics for dealing with violent home invasions.  This is important as Home Invasions are on the rise.

According to Wikipedia Massad Ayoob is an internationally known firearms and self-defense instructor. He has taught police techniques and civilian self-defense to both law enforcement officers and private citizens since 1974.

He was the director of the Lethal Force Institute (LFI) in Concord, New Hampshire from 1981 to 2009.  Ayoob now directs the Massad Ayoob Group (MAG).

More than that bio Mr. Ayoob writes some of the best firearm books on the subject of the legal aftermath of a self defense shooting.  I widely quote his work in my classes,  and recommend his books courses and videos to my students.

I have always taught that while knowing how to gunfight is vital if your going to carry a gun, you are MUCH more likely to have to deal with a policeman while going armed than getting in a gunfight with a criminal.

I like how Ayoob approaches the subject as he gives tips when stopped by police when carrying a weapon.

One thing I feel the State of Tennessee dropped the ball on when updating the Handgun Carry Permit was they took out scenario training videos like this one and replaced it with Troopers talking about drugs.

Lets face it Armed Citizenry that apply for a state permit are not likely to smoke meth, but they should know how to act when confronted by police officers while carrying their weapons.

These Tips When Stopped by Police is very good information and I hope you find it useful

Shooting on the range against static targets is pretty easy – but we do it to gain skills that will help us survive when the targets shoot back and we have life on the line rather than bragging rights.

Having a close range action plan is pretty important because it helps deal with everything going on when everything going on is rapidly changing, confusing, complex, and life altering.  Just know that what Tyson said about plans is true “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”

I love Steve Lee love songs…  My favorite is I like guns, but this one is pretty good.  I share it because I think many of us are in the same place.  We like guns, and we love out partners, but she don’t like guns.

Luckily while my wife isn’t a gun person, she loves me.  Because of this she puts up with my personality and the guns that keep appearing in the house.

More importantly, she understands where I am coming from and is supportive as I share the American gun culture with our son.

Obviously you can love someone that is not a clone of yourself, people disagree, and my wife believes things that I don’t.  But a mutual respect allows those disagreements to be dealt with in a postivie manner.

For us, Genny goes shooting with me, and she enjoyed it, but she does not love it, so after she learned the basics of firearm safety she gradually stopped going to the range.

That’s fine, because I did the same with trips to her mothers…  All joking aside.  The song She don’t like gun’s celebrates mutual respect and how a person can live with someone they don’t always agree with as long as the base is their.
